I went for supper with my mother. The poor dear has apparently recieved a shock. One of the doctors at the clinic, a man she's worked with for 7 years now, and likes a great deal, gave his boyfriend's name as next of kin. When my mother expressed surprise (insert eye-roll here), he told her that, since they've been living together for 15 years, he's really the best person to contact. They've been raising their kids together for the same amount of time. My mother was quite surprised, shaken up, and disturbed. I was entirely amused. It's about time someone shook her out of this random idea that being gay was this massive conspiracy invented by my generation, that we're doing it as a form of rebellion, and that we'll all grow up and get married (actually, we might - to other gay people, now. So there. :P).

That said, I'm back in Montreal, away from my grandparents, and rather appreciate it... because while I do love them, the religious tracts left by my grandmother, along with the not-so-suble hints that I should get married, and the constant self-censoring (no mentioning that so-and-so has a boyfriend, not mentioning my ex getting married, etc)... well, it gets old.
