foi_nefasteI had the most surreal encounter today.
I was at Indigo between two classes. Since they were playing music I didn't like, and since I was in a bookstore without anyone I knew or would want to talk to around, I had my CDs playing and my earphones on. So, browse books, figure out which books I'd eventually like to read, stop by the washroom before going back to school... The usual, right? So, I was drying my hands when this woman shakes the water off her hands, stares at me, and gives me a highly offended expression before reaching for hand towels in the towel dispenser, except that there weren't any. So, as one would usually do in that situation, I pointed out that there was another hand dryier right behind her (in case she hadn't seen it so that she wouldn't wait for me to be done if she didn't have to). The bitch starts SCREAMING at me. Says that she didn't ask for my advice and that she HATES people who wear earphones in public. Honestly, I was kinda shocked - first of all, a vaguely helpful indication to a stranger in a public space should be met with a nod of acknowledgement or something, IF THAT. Screaming? Not asked for. Aggressive behavior? Ditto. Honestly, when I'm unexpectedly attacked like that, I tend to revert to my mother's attitude - so I told her that SHE might not demand my advice, but that I damn well demand at least basic politeness. More screaming - apparently she didn't ask to talk to me, etc, etc. By that time, my hands were dry, so I told her to bugger off and left. Politeness and respect, at that point? Not deserved.
