Mar. 22nd, 2003 09:58 pmI wonder, is there a law which says that all english majors shall only read important texts? Its the impression I get from classes and such...
In consequent, I've spent an enjoyable afternoon reading fanfic. And I've discovered that it can be divided into thirds :
1 - Great work. Occasionally needing some spelling mistakes fixed, but not enough to distract from the fic itself. The characters are great, the story is captivating, etc.
2 - Ok. Needs work with the characterization and the spelling, but really isn't so bad. The stories would actually be interesting... if the plot hadn't been used a few dozen times before, that is. Still, a nice effort.
3 - The Dregs. Bad spelling, no characterization, no grammar, no story other than to make the author's (and I use the term broadly) favorite character fall in love with the OC as quickly as possible. This also includes the Harry-worked-out-all-summer, developed-a-few-magic-powers, defeats-Voldemort-with-a-flick-of-him-fingers, as well as the type of fic I've heard described (by someone on my friend list, though I'm not quite sure who) as 'clothing fics'. These are the fics that aren't so much concerned with the plot or characters, as with what they're wearing, what piercings they have, how their hair is styled, and how oh-so-cool! (*insert girlish shriek here*) they are. *gags*
Anyone care to add categories?
